Jemma Reflection, Term 3.
Jemma Reflection, Term 3.
This term was awesome. We did Speeches, Jump Jam, The tech famie, Film festival,
Calendar art and much, much more! So let me tell you about this term.
Calendar art and much, much more! So let me tell you about this term.
This term we did Speeches, They were amazing! I wasn’t one of the lucky two to get in,
but I still tried my hardest in the school competition. My speech was on Alzheimer's disease.
The Alzheimer's disease is a disease that makes you forget things that just happened and
slowly make you forget all your memories like, people you knew and people you loved. The
reason I did the speech on this topic is that my Gran has it.

Another thing we did this term was we did The film festival. I did the film festival with three
others, Aamaria, Xavier and Jeordie. We did our film festival on hunting on the west coast.
Because our topic was our place (like where you live) so we did something on the west coast.
Which was pig hunting here is the LINK to the video.

Also this term in maths we learn how to solve BEDMAS equations. BEDMAS stands for
(B)Brackets (E)Exponents {(D)Division (M)Multiplication} {(A)Addition (S)Subtraction.} A little
thing about BEDMAS is you see how I have the {} around the D, M & A, S? Well, because
it's grouped, which means whichever one comes first in the equation (left to right). How
BEDMAS works is if I had this equation: (5x6)x12÷3-8+4= I would use BEDMAS to work it out.
First I would do the brackets 5x6=30, then the exponent which is 12 (An exponent is when you
multiply the main number which is 1 since it has that little 2 means its to the power of 2 a.k.a it
means 1x1=1) then 30x1=30. Then 30÷3=10 after that 10-8=2 last but not least 2+4=6 so the
answer to this equation is 6. This is how you would write it:(5x6)x12÷3-8+4=6.

Next thing we did was we tested out Jump Jam! Jump Jam is a video of people dancing and
you follow them along! It is suitable for school children and up. There are plenty of dances on
Jump Jam like Witch Doctor, Candyman, Proud Mary, YMCA and Who let the dogs out. We did
2-3 of these dances on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

All year we have been doing technology! The first term I was in digital technology, then
Woodworks, This term I was in cooking! Where we cook food and all sorts of stuff. Our
assessment was where we cooked a dish in pair that had to have: 2-3 vegetables, some meat,
\Noodles or pasta or rice and some sauce. I used Carrots, Spinach, Salami, Noddles and
Sweet & Sour sauce.

For the first time this term I was apart of the Kapa Haka festival. Our Group has been
practising for two terms. We did four Waiata (Song) and one Haka (Like a song but with no
background music and instead of singing they are yelling). It went in this order: He hōnore
(a Waiata), Toia Mai (a Waiata), E I A IE (a Waiata), Tika tonu (a Haka) and PUKANAKANA
(a Waiata). On the 23.9.2019 was the Kapa Haka festival. It was amazing. I was kind of
nervous, actually a lot nervous. I had performed in front of a crowd, a big one at that but
that was dancing, not singing! With dancing, if you forgot it you could just make it up, but
with singing, it is a bit harder than just making it up! But when we got out there it was amazing
compared to other schools we were super loud! And our Haka was amazing! There were
even one of our teachers from technology! Something weird happened though. On our last
Waiata (PUKANAKANA) our guitarist walk off stage! She forgot we had one last Waiata!
That was also our best Waiata! So we just stood there looking like weirdos until we decided
to walk off stage, but as soon as we did that Paula (Our guitarist) came back on. But she was
too late. And that was it. We had lunch then left on the bus.

debates
Last term room Taiao started debates!
Our debates were on should homework be set for all primary schools? I was on the negative side.
My group was Rhea, Kade and I. Rhea was the captain Kade was the First speaker and I was the second speaker. Here is what I said in the debate:
Our debates were on should homework be set for all primary schools? I was on the negative side.
My group was Rhea, Kade and I. Rhea was the captain Kade was the First speaker and I was the second speaker. Here is what I said in the debate:
Homework, homework is something that is supposed to help you but it doesn’t, and it gets in the way in many ways like, of your friends, thoughts, and exploration of the world overall.
Another thing about homework is that it makes you isolated from others because most people are buried in homework and don’t have as much time to spend considering what they are doing in their social and future lives.
In other words that you might be obsessed with doing well or being the best, you even might be pressured by your parents, therefore the more time you spend indoors doing homework the more friends you may lose.
Another thing that is when doing homework you are mostly enclosed in a room, right? Well, this isn’t very good for you, especially when the homework you are doing in on a device.
A lot of high schoolers get so much homework that they might as well forget about that birthday dinner for there friends and their social skills will become weaker and weaker. Most of the time homework can get a lot of people super stressed and lead to anger issues where you could lose your friends if you yell at them because you might be insecure about succeeding and getting good grades. Adding onto that you could be thinking that your friends are holding you back because there telling you to rest but really there trying to do what’s best for you.
Also at the end of the debate, there was a winner and that winner was nonother than the negative side!
